HOME CLUB:

FAVOURITE PART OF COACHING:
My favourite part of coaching is working with a range of athletes and finding ways to support them all in their development through athletics, and outside of athletics. Seeing athletes develop the confidence in their own abilities and knowledge of their event.

FAVOURITE MEMORY AS COACH:
The best memory as a coach as the first time one of my athletes took a national gold medal after working with her for around 3-4 years from the moment she entered the sport. Seeing her face win the medal was amazing.

FAVOURITE SESSION TO GIVE:
Fox and Hound sessions, it's just fun to see the competition between athletes in the sessions.

TOP 3 EXERCISES OR STRECHES:
1. Side shuffle/ski walks with glute bands, really good activation work before a sprint session
2. Posture walks. Slow drill focusing on technical development. Very basic, foundational drill but one that should be done all the way through an athletes career.
3. Box jumps, staple of all good plyometric sessions.

SPORTING BACKGROUND:
Sprinting, 100m and 200m, football, volleyball, tried a few sports at a range of levels.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST WITH EUAC:
I'm looking forward to being able to support athletes back into sport, both as new starters to athletics and people returning from the sport.

FAVOURITE PART OF COACHING:
helping athletes perform to their best in competition; whether that’s a PB, SB or just enjoying it.

FAVOURITE MEMORY AS COACH:
a few memories! One athlete throwing over 50m in javelin for first time within a season of working together. Another athlete winning the 100m at Scottish Uni’s and districts in the same season and going sub 11.

FAVOURITE SESSION TO GIVE:
in the past it’s just been one throwing session, so the focus has always been on technique sessions. Helping an athlete break down their technique and tweaking things before showing massive improvements in comp is always positive.

TOP 3 EXERCISES OR STRECHES:
get strong in the basics! Compound lifts and mobility will help big time and hopefully reduce injuries if executed correctly (Calum’s domain ) Get a good solid core. It’ll help with the power transfers needed in the different events.

SPORTING BACKGROUND:
varied! District medals (even as a senior!) and national finals in younger age categories. Top 20 in European trials as a junior for GB squad. Badminton at county level. Qualifying Calum’s fact...we both got selected to the testing days for the Power2Podium for British Skeleton (different venues)

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST WITH EUAC:
getting a routine going again. Personally I’d like to see EUAC push for the Scottish Uni’s title, taking it away from Glasgow after many years but overall, seeing everyone enjoy themselves, commit to improving themselves no matter their event or experience and make the most of their uni time!

LOCAL (PERSONAL) CLUB:
Portobello RC

FAVOURITE PART OF COACHING:
Seeing athletes grow in confidence and achieve things they doubted themselves on previously.

FAVOURITE MEMORY AS COACH:
Training two juniors that are now competing at junior Wimbledon.

FAVOURITE SESSION TO GIVE:
FMS testing, athlete screening and peak week of each training cycle.

TOP 3 EXERCISES OR STRECHES:
Simple three, no athlete should jump to the specific work (ie. powerlifting, plyometrics) without building foundational strength and have passed a movement analysis - complete your large compounds to build up ligament strength and reduce the chance of injury, with that make sure to mobilise before sessions and avoid static based stretches until session completion to avoid muscle elongation

SPORTING BACKGROUND:
Splayed football for Motherwell, county tennis and rugby before realising that tennis players aren't built to withstand getting hit by props (fun fact Calum and John both were on GB programmes for Skeleton Bobsled in 2014).

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST WITH EUAC:
Getting everyone back into training and "rebuilding" to competition state.
